PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. — The Plattsburgh State men's soccer team began State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play with a 1-1 double-overtime tie with Oswego State on Friday at the Field House Complex.

With the tie, Plattsburgh State has a 3-3-1 (0-0-1 SUNYAC) record on the season. The Cardinals host No. 18 SUNY Cortland for a SUNYAC match on Saturday, Sept. 25, at 1 p.m. Oswego State (1-2-4, 0-0-1 SUNYAC) plays at SUNY Potsdam on Saturday, Sept. 25, at 1 p.m.

The only goals of the match came in the first half.

Plattsburgh State struck first with a free-kick opportunity taken from the left side of the attacking third in the 14th minute. Sophomore midfielder Kevin Abbondanza (Rye, N.Y./Rye) played the free kick into the box where senior defender Jimmy Alexander (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) headed the ball past the goalkeeper to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.

However, Oswego State tied the game at 1-1 in the 21st minute. A Plattsburgh State foul in the 18-yard box led to a penalty kick for Oswego State. Caleb Munski scored on the penalty kick with a low shot.
