Men's Soccer Falls to Vassar College, 2-0

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. — The Plattsburgh men's soccer team suffered a 2-0 setback to Vassar College in a non-conference match at the Field House Complex on Saturday afternoon.

With the result, Plattsburgh State is 2-3-0 on the season and Vassar is 5-1-0. The Cardinals next play a non-conference match at Russel Sage College at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 21. The Brewers host Manhattanville College for a non-conference match at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 22.

The Cardinals and Brewers played a tightly contested first half. Neither team scored until Vassar took a 1-0 lead with 10.5 seconds remaining until halftime. Austin Lukasik took a corner kick from the left corner that was headed in the box by Ethan Snyder. The header bounced over to Nathan Logan, who scored his second goal of the season with a low shot.

The Cardinals fought back in the second half, with one of their best chances coming in the 59th minute. With the goalkeeper out of position following a turnover, junior forward Jai Coker (Birkdale, Australia/Redlands College) took a long shot that hit off of the crossbar and bounced back into the field of play. First-year midfielder Brian Coughlan (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) got to the rebound in the box but fired a shot that missed high over the net.

The Brewers made the final score 2-0 when Teddy Borgos scored in the 76th minute for his second goal of the season. Austin Lukasik played a ball from the midfield to Ryan Lane in the Vassar attacking third. Lane dribbled to the right side of the box and played a pass to Borgos directly in front of the goal. Borgos scored with a shot into the lower-left corner of the goal.

The Cardinals were unable to score in the remainder of the match and Vassar held on for the 2-0 victory.

First-year goalkeeper Teddy Healy (Amityville, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial), who made four saves in goal for Plattsburgh State, has a 2-3-0 record on the season. Eric Wnorowski (5-1-0) made four saves for Vassar.
