CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State softball team was swept in a doubleheader at No. 22-ranked SUNY Cortland on Saturday afternoon at Dragon Field. Plattsburgh State dropped game one, 4-0, and game two, 5-0.
Plattsburgh State is now 2-2 (2-2 State University of New York Athletic Conference [SUNYAC]) and Cortland is 5-1 (2-0 SUNYAC).
Game 1: SUNY Cortland 4, Plattsburgh State 0
Neither Plattsburgh State or Cortland scored until the bottom of the third inning when the Red Dragons scored three runs. Cortland received an RBI single from catcher Cailey Cuttita, an RBI double to center field from first baseman Lexi Szesnat and then scored the final run of the frame on a Plattsburgh State error.
Cortland scored what turned out to be the final run of the game in the fourth inning when Cuttita garnered an RBI groundout to make the score 4-0.
Plattsburgh State was unable to mount much offense as Karlee Weeden (2-0) pitched a complete-game shutout for the Red Dragons. Weeden struck out five and walked four, while limiting the Cardinals to two hits.
Julia Golino (Mount Sinai, N.Y./Mount Sinai), who pitched a six-inning complete game for the Cardinals, fell to 0-1 on the season. Golino allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits, while striking out five and walking two.

Samantha Gentile (Highland, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes) each tallied a hit for Plattsburgh State.
Game 2: SUNY Cortland 5, Plattsburgh State 0
Plattsburgh State's offense was unable to solve Cortland's Courtney Kane (2-0) who tossed a no-hitter as the Cardinals lost game two, 5-0.
Cortland took a lead it would not relinquish when Cutitta drove in a run with a single through the left side of the infield in the first inning to make the score 1-0.
Sophomore
Kristina Maggiacomo (South Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) (1-1), who started in the circle for the Cardinals, kept the score at 1-0 until the fifth inning when the Red Dragons scored a run on a single down the left-field line off the bat of designated player Jess Miller to make the score 2-0.
Cortland extended its lead with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on a two-run home run to left field by center fielder Kelly O'Gorman and an RBI double by Cuttita.
Kane struck out six, walked three and hit a batter as she completed the seven-inning no-hitter for Cortland.
Maggiacomo pitched a six-inning complete game for the Cardinals – allowing five runs (four earned) on nine hits, while striking out five and walking two.
