PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's lacrosse team dropped a 20-7 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) decision to SUNY Oneonta on Saturday afternoon at the Field House Complex.
Oneonta outshot Plattsburgh State, 35-24, and held a 20-10 edge in ground balls. The Cardinals owned a 17-12 edge in draw controls and went 15-for-20 on clears.
Plattsburgh State drops to 0-4 overall (0-4 SUNYAC) with the loss and next visits SUNY New Paltz on Monday, April 19, at 4 p.m. Oneonta rises to 4-2 overall (4-2 SUNYAC) with the win and next visits SUNY Cortland on Wednesday, April 21, at 4 p.m.
Oneonta scored the first three goals of the game before sophomore midfielder/defender
Caroline Noia (West Nyack, N.Y./Clarkstown South) found the back of the net with 23:13 left in the first half. The Red Dragons netted two more scores before Noia connected with sophomore attacker
Katie Kallamni (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) for a goal to cut the gap to 5-2, but Oneonta buried three more unanswered goals to post an 8-2 advantage. First-year midfielder
Jordan Kowalski (Westfield, Mass./Westfield) scored her first collegiate goal midway through the period to break up the run, but four straight Red Dragon markers to close the stanza provided the halftime score of 13-4.
The Red Dragons continued their offensive surge with three consecutive goals to open up the second half, but sophomore attacker
Rhiannon Morgenroth (Clay, N.Y./Liverpool) tallied her first goal of the season on a feed from Kallamni halfway through the period to pull within 16-5. After Oneonta's senior attacker Lily Avazis scored, sophomore midfielder
Lindsay Guzzetta (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) rattled the back of the cage on a pass from first-year attacker
Fiona Fitzgerald (Long Beach, N.Y./Holy Trinity). While Oneonta scored three more unanswered goals, Noia closed out scoring with 36 seconds left in regulation.
Noia led the offense with three points on two goals and an assist, while Kallamni recorded two points on a goal and an assist. Guzzetta posted four draw controls, while Guzzetta, Noia and first-year defender/midfielder
Janey Adams (Wynantskill, N.Y./Averill Park) all scooped up two ground balls.
For Oneonta, sophomore attacker Megan Foiles recorded five points on four goals and one assist, while Avazis notched five points on one goal and four assists. Junior midfielder Rachel Morris controlled six draws and picked up three ground balls to help the Red Dragons in the possession game.
