Men's Ice Hockey Plays Oswego State to 2-2 Overtime Tie

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. — The Plattsburgh State men's ice hockey team played Oswego State to a 2-2 overtime tie in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game on Saturday night at the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena.

Plattsburgh State (2-1-1, 1-0-1 SUNYAC) next plays a road SUNYAC game at SUNY Geneseo at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 12. Oswego State (1-2-1, 1-0-1 SUNYAC) hosts SUNY Cortland at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 12.

Plattsburgh State scored the first two goals of the game to take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.

The game was scoreless until 16:17 of the first period when sophomore forward Bennett Stockdale (Ottawa, Ontario/Alabama Huntsville) scored his fifth goal of the season. Sophomore forward Thomas Maia (Mississauga, Ontario/Nanaimo Clippers) played a pass across the front of the net to Stockdale, who deposited the puck into the right side of the goal. Sophomore forward Carson Gallagher (Courtice, Ontario/Sacred Heart University) tallied the secondary assist.

When the first goal was scored, the fans in attendance threw red stress balls onto the ice. The red stress balls were sold for $1 each, with all proceeds going to the SUNY Plattsburgh Food Shelf. No objects were allowed to be thrown on the ice at any other time in the game.

Under two minutes later, Gallagher scored his second goal of the season on the power-play to put Plattsburgh State in front, 2-0, at 18:14. Gallagher unleashed a wrist shot from just outside the top of the left circle that beat the goaltender on the glove side. Sophomore forward Joey Mancuso (Pottstown, Pa./Connecticut Jr. Rangers) and first-year forward Luk Jirousek (Whitehorse, Yukon/Alberni Valley Bulldogs) recorded the assists.

However, Oswego State would score the only two goals of the second period to tie the game at 2-2.

Junior defenseman Tyler Antonucci scored his first goal of the season at 5:26 of the second period to make the score 2-1. Plattsburgh State's sophomore goaltender Anthony Del Tufo (Livingston, N.J./Philadelphia Revolution) made an initial save on a Laker shot. However, Antonucci got to the rebound in the low slot and scored with a high wrist shot. Sophomore forward Alex DiCarlo and junior forward Travis Broughman garnered the assists.

Oswego State tied the game at 12:55 of the first period on DiCarlo's second goal of the season. On a 2-on-1 rush, sophomore forward Connor Sleeth slid a pass over to DiCarlo on the right side of the slot and DiCarlo scored with a quick wrist shot before Del Tufo could get over to make the score 2-2. Junior defenseman Troy Robillard tallied the secondary assist.

In the third period and overtime, both teams had opportunities but neither team was able to score as the goaltenders made key saves. The game ended in a 2-2 tie.

Del Tufo (2-1-2) made 28 saves for Plattsburgh State, while Steven Kozikoski (1-1-1) stopped 30 shots for Oswego State.

Each team finished 1-of-3 on the power play.

The Cardinals held a 32-30 edge in shots on goal.
