Men's Basketball Upended by Oneonta, 105-65, on Senior Day to Close Out 2019-20

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's basketball team fell just one game shy of qualifying for the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament, as the Cardinals fell to SUNY Oneonta, 105-65, in conference action Saturday afternoon at Memorial Hall on Senior Day. It marked the final contest of the 2019-20 season for the Cardinals.
 
Prior to the start of the game, the Cardinals honored their three seniors: guard Nick DeAngelis (West Milford, N.J./West Milford), guard/forward Jeremy Eisenman (New York, N.Y./NEST+m) and forward Adam Jaquish (Moriah, N.Y./Moriah).
 
Plattsburgh State finishes the year at 8-17 overall (5-13 SUNYAC). Oneonta rises to 18-7 overall (14-4 SUNYAC) with the win and earned the No. 3 seed in the SUNYAC Tournament. The Red Dragons will host sixth-seeded SUNY Geneseo on Tuesday, Feb. 25, at 7 p.m.
 
While Oneonta hopped out to a 7-2 lead, Plattsburgh State received back-to-back 3-pointers from DeAngelis and Eisenman to go up, 8-7. The Red Dragons then started scoring at will, going on a 30-9 surge to take a 37-17 advantage. Oneonta entered the locker rooms with a 58-28 lead.
 
The Red Dragons continued to cruise in the second half, leading by as many as 44 points on their way to a 40-point victory.
 
Plattsburgh State shot 36.1 percent (26-of-72) from the floor for the game and forced Oneonta into eight turnovers. The Red Dragons shot 71.4 percent (25-of-35) from the field in the field half and wound up shooting 60 percent (42-of-70) from the floor overall for the contest. Oneonta also went 48.4 percent from 3-point range, draining 15 of its 31 attempts from distance.
 
Junior guard Travis Cox (Brooklyn, N.Y./Frederick Douglass Academy) led the Cardinals with 21 points and eight rebounds, while DeAngelis buried 13 points and dished out four assists in his final game in a Plattsburgh State uniform.
 
For Oneonta, senior guard Kevin Mackin drained 41 points on 16-of-24 shooting from the floor and 9-of-16 shooting from beyond the arc. Sophomore guard/forward Dylan Trombley tallied 18 points and six rebounds, while junior guard/forward Kameron Hickey totaled 10 points in 14 minutes coming off the bench. Despite playing just 26 minutes, senior guard/forward Harrison Deegan nearly had a triple-double with seven points, eight assists and seven rebounds.
