BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Sophomore guard/forward Kelly Degnan (Irvington, N.Y./Irvington) scored a season-high 18 points and added nine rebounds and senior forward Taylor Clare (Peekskill, N.Y./Peekskill) posted an 11-point, 17-rebound double-double, but the Plattsburgh State women's basketball team fell to The College at Brockport, 55-51, in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action on Saturday afternoon at Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium.

Down nine points with 9:35 left in the fourth quarter, the Cardinals went on a 9-0 run, and Degnan tied the game at 42-all with 5:28 remaining. After Brockport's junior guard Julianna Taylor made a free throw, sophomore guard Kayla Doody (Troy, N.Y./Tamarac) connected on a 3-pointer to give Plattsburgh State its first lead of the second half. After the Golden Eagles made the back end of a two-shot trip to the line, Degnan and Clare each scored on two-point baskets to swell the Cardinal advantage to 49-44 with 2:55 left.

Senior guard Bailey Pratt nailed a 3-pointer for Brockport and Degnan answered with a layup for Plattsburgh State before the Golden Eagles closed the game with eight unanswered points.

After the Golden Eagles took a 7-3 lead early in the first quarter following a 3-pointer by Taylor, Doody nailed a trey on the next possession to trim the gap back to one. Following a pair of made free throws by Brockport's freshman guard Anna Felice, freshman forward Misa Dowdell (Far Rockaway, N.Y./Scholars Academy) and junior guard Theresa Quinn (Cromwell, Conn./Cromwell) cashed in on two-point buckets to stake the Cardinals to a 10-9 lead. Brockport made two free throws in the final 1:22 in the quarter to put Brockport out in front, 11-10, through 10 minutes of play.

While Brockport's sophomore guard Chelsea Henry scored the first two points of the second quarter on two made free throws, Clare buried a jumper to cut the gap back to one. The Golden Eagles then went on a 15-6 surge to close the first half, with a Felice jumper at the buzzer giving Brockport a 28-18 cushion heading into the locker rooms.

The Golden Eagles opened up a 12-point lead midway through the third quarter, but the Cardinals netted seven unanswered points to battle back. A 3-pointer by junior guard Hanna Whitney (Keene, N.Y./Keene Central) with 1:19 remaining in the quarter drew Plattsburgh State within 37-32, but Pratt made a trey with 22 seconds left to put Brockport back up by eight heading into the final regulation period.
