PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Plattsburgh State men's soccer fell to Skidmore College 2-0 in non-conference action on Saturday night at the Field House Complex.
Plattsburgh State (2-4-0) was outscored by Skidmore College (4-0-2) 1-0 in the first half of play. The Thoroughbreds struck early as Stanley Langyintuo scored, unassisted, in the fourth minute. Plattsburgh State's junior goalkeeper
Ryan Wilson (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Arlington) (2-4-0) punched out an initial shot. A Cardinal defender tried to clear the ball, but it deflected back off of Wilson and out to Langyintuo, who took a shot from the top-right portion of the 18-yard box that found the lower-left corner of the net.
In the second half, Skidmore would score the only goal of the stanza to make the final score 2-0 in favor of the Thoroughbreds. Skidmore's goal came early in the half with David Braman scoring in the 52nd minute. On a free kick from outside the top of the 18-yard box, Braman finished into the lower-left corner of the net with a right-footed strike.
Plattsburgh State generated some offensive opportunities late in the match. Running into the left-side of the 18-yard box,
Chris Robertson (Thiells, N.Y./St. Joseph Regional (N.J.)) had a shot that went wide in the 77th minute. Then in the 80th minute, freshman forward
Cole Weiner (Saint James, N.Y./Smithtown) had a shot from close range that was saved by Skidmore's goalkeeper Sebastian Bosch (4-0-1). Plattsburgh State was unable to tally a goal and the match ended with the score 2-0.
Wilson made four saves for the Cardinals and Bosch stopped two shots for the Thoroughbreds.
Skidmore held a 13-9 advantage in shots and corner kicks were even at 5-5.
The Cardinals are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 21, when they welcome Clarkson University to the Field House Complex for a non-conference match at 2 p.m. Skidmore begins Liberty League play with a match at Union College on Friday, Sept. 20, at 7 p.m.
