PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's lacrosse team wrapped up its inaugural season with a 19-6 loss to Buffalo State Saturday afternoon on Senior Day in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action at the Field House Complex.
Prior to the start of the game, the Cardinals honored their three seniors: attacker/midfielder
Mia Tallerico (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) and defenders
Kara Barber (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Peru) and
Jenna Lazorischak (Niskayuna, N.Y./Colonie).
After falling behind 7-2, Plattsburgh State scored two straight goals on the strength of scores by freshman attacker
Emily Caoili (Lagrangeville, N.Y./Arlington) and freshman attacker/midfielder
Allie Vangas (Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y./Cornwall). Porcaro assisted on Caoili's goal. Buffalo State answered with two straight goals to go up 9-4 heading into the halftime intermission, and it scored three more unanswered early in the second half to build a 12-4 advantage. The Bengals outscored the Cardinals, 7-2, down the stretch.
Plattsburgh State ends its season at 2-15 overall (0-9 SUNYAC), while Buffalo State finishes the year at 7-9 overall (3-6 SUNYAC).
Buffalo State finished with the advantage in shots (31-21), ground balls (23-19) and draw controls (17-10), while the Bengals went 2-for-2 on free-position shots. On clears, Plattsburgh State was 13-for-21, while Buffalo State was 17-for-21.
Caoili and Vangas each led the Cardinal attack with two goals, while sophomore attacker/midfielder
Kerri Corcoran (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) and freshman midfielder/defender
Claire Wiley (Whitesboro, N.Y./Whitesboro) each scored once. Sophomore attacker/midfielder
Frankie Porcaro (Bellport, N.Y./Bellport) dished out one assist. Corcoran and freshman midfielder
Reece Wiley (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Forks) controlled three draws, while
Claire Wiley led the Plattsburgh State defense with six ground balls and five caused turnovers.
For Buffalo State, senior attacker Kendall Skuse tallied 11 points on three goals and eight assists, while senior attacker Nina Schaefer registered eight points on six goals and two assists. Senior midfielder Jackie Dufresne earned seven points on six goals and one assist while controlling seven draws. Defensively, junior midfielder Hannah Nagowski had three caused turnovers and three ground balls.

Alexa Cassidy (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick) made four saves in the loss for the Cardinals, while freshman goalies Janae Nelson and Makenna Murphy combined for 10 stops in the win for the Bengals.
