Strong First Quarter Not Enough in Men's Lacrosse's 21-5 Loss to Middlebury

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's lacrosse team fell to Middlebury College, 21-5, in its final non-conference game of the regular season Wednesday afternoon at the Field House Complex. Middlebury scored 16 consecutive goals to come away with the victory.

Sophomore short-stick defensive midfielder Justin Wise (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) put Plattsburgh State on the board on a pass from senior attackman Jake Carroll (East Northport, N.Y./Northport) 36 seconds into the game, while junior attackman Chase Goree and freshman attackman Tyler Forbes scored goals in a span of 41 seconds to stake Middlebury to a 2-1 lead. Junior midfielder Kevin Litchauer (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Arlington) and Carroll both scored to hand Plattsburgh State a 3-2 edge, while sophomore midfielder Alderick vanderHeyde tallied for Middlebury with 3:55 left in the first to knot the score at 3-all.

While the Panthers received goals from senior attackman Luke Peterson (vanderHeyde assist) and junior defenseman Zeke Emerson (freshman midfielder Gordon Pollock assist) to open the second, sophomore attackman Stephen Kane (Hampden, Mass./Minnechaug Regional) connected with freshman attackman Zach Gill (Miller Place, N.Y./Rocky Point) to make it a one-goal game with 8:26 left in the second. Middlebury's junior attackman Danny Jacobs relied on an assist from junior attackman A.J. Kucinski seven seconds later to score man-up, and that ignited the Panthers' 16-goal run.

Middlebury finished with the upper hand in shots (59-35), face-offs (20-for-29) and ground balls (41-25) while going 16-for-19 on clears and 3-for-7 on extra-man opportunities. The Cardinals, meanwhile, were 15-for-25 on clears, including a 15-for-18 mark in the first, second and fourth quarters combined.
