NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's basketball team (10-15, 7-11 SUNYAC) lost to No. 25 New Paltz (21-4, 17-1 SUNYAC) Saturday evening inside the Hawk Center to officially end their season.
Junior guard/forward
Taylor Durnin (Lyon Mountain, N.Y. / Northern Adirondack) led the Cardinals with 23 points, freshman forward
Ly'rell Walker (Yonkers, N.Y. / Roosevelt) had 17 points and senior guard/forward
Bella DePasquale (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) recorded 15 points.
Plattsburgh State out-rebounded New Paltz 42-37 with junior forward
Taylor Clare (Peekskill, N.Y./Peekskill) picking up 13 of the Cardinals rebounds.
The Hawks out-scored the Cardinals 23-10 in the first quarter.
Plattsburgh State had their highest scoring quarter in the second with 26 points and held New Paltz to 20.
The Cardinals went on a six-point run two minutes into the second quarter to cut the deficit to seven points.
Durnin made a layup and a jumper and sophomore guard/ forward
Lauren Lawliss (Peru, N.Y. / Peru) put in a layup.
New Paltz was able to extend their lead to 14 points and the Cardinals ended the quarter with a seven-point run.
Durnin made two free throws, DePasquale drained a three and Durnin made two more free throws to head into halftime down 43-36.
The Hawks held the Cardinals to 12 points in the third quarter compared to their 18.
Both teams recorded 23 points in the fourth but New Paltz prevailed for the 13-point win.
