Kelly Degnan (Irvington, N.Y. / Irvington) and senior guard/forward
Bella DePasquale (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) each recorded double-doubles in the Plattsburgh State women's basketball (8-11, 5-7 SUNYAC) 67-66 loss to Potsdam (7-11, 4-8 SUNYAC) Tuesday night inside the Jerry Welsh Gymnasium.
Degnan scored 17 points, picked up 12 rebounds and had two assists and two steals.
DePasquale had 11 points and 10 rebounds along with two steals.
Junior guard/forward
Taylor Durnin (Lyon Mountain, N.Y. / Northern Adirondack) led the Cardinals with 18 points and had seven rebounds and four assists while freshman forward
Ly'rell Walker (Yonkers, N.Y. / Roosevelt) had 12 points.
Plattsburgh State out-shot Potsdam in free throws 77.3% to 46.2% but the Bears were 40.3% in field goals compared to the Cardinals 36.1%.
The first quarter was tied twice and the lead changed seven times before the Cardinals ended it with three free throws from Durnin to take a 13-10 edge heading into the second quarter.
Two free throws from Degnan gave Plattsburgh State a five-point cushion to start the second quarter.
Potsdam made a layup and Degnan made a free throw followed by a three-pointer from DePasquale for a seven-point advantage.
The Bears tied it 19-19 with 4:51 left and DePasquale drained another three followed by two free throws from sophomore guard
Theresa Quinn (Cromwell, Conn. / Cromwell).
Potsdam made a three-pointer and Walker had a layup, DePasquale drained another three and Durnin had a jumper for a nine-point edge.
Both teams made two free throws to end the quarter and Plattsburgh State headed into halftime up 33-34.
The Bears out-shot the Cardinals 21-11 in the third to head into the final quarter up 45-44.
Both teams scored 22 points in the final quarter with the game being tied two more times and the lead changing four times.
With two seconds left Potsdam tied the game 66-66 with a free throw and after a time out they made their second free throw for the one-point win.
The Cardinals are back on the road Friday to play Buffalo State with a 5:30 p.m. tip off.
