HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Plattsburgh State women's volleyball team closed out action at the Stevens Institute of Technology's Ducks Classic on Saturday at Canavan Arena, falling, 3-0 (25-14, 25-10, 25-14), to host Stevens before dropping a 3-0 (26-24, 25-22, 25-20) decision to the College of Mount Saint Vincent.
Plattsburgh State drops to 3-5 overall with the losses and next competes at the Union Tournament from Friday-Saturday, Sept. 14-15. The Cardinals open the weekend with a 4 p.m. match on Friday against host Union College. Stevens and Mount Saint Vincent rise to 4-3 and 1-3, respectively, with the wins.
Stevens 3, Plattsburgh State 0 (25-14, 25-10, 25-14)
Stevens hit .337 in its straight-set victory over Plattsburgh State during the first match of the day and held the upper hand in service aces (4-1), blocks (4-3) and digs (34-31).
Sophomore middle blocker
Michelle Simmons (Riverside, Calif./Riverside Poly) led the Cardinals with eight kills, while sophomore setter/defensive specialist
Allyssa Rock (West Chazy, N.Y./Beekmantown) dished out 22 assists and nearly completed the double-double with nine digs. Freshman middle blocker/opposite
Ann Beauchamp (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam) reinforced the front row defensively with two block assists.
For Stevens, junior outside hitter Taleen Mitchell led the way with 13 kills and a .379 hitting percentage, while senior setter Brianna Perez doled out 18 assists, freshman libero Elizabeth Chu defended 12 digs and junior middle blocker Sara Hain tallied three block assists.
Mount Saint Vincent 3, Plattsburgh State 0 (26-24, 25-22, 25-20)
Despite holding a 9-7 edge in service aces, a 6-4 cushion in blocks and a 39-37 margin in digs, Plattsburgh State was unable to overcome Mount Saint Vincent in a 3-0 setback. The Dolphins hit .210 for the match, flooring 39 kills while committing just 18 hitting errors.
Junior outside hitter
Megan Hyde (Schenectady, N.Y./Schalmont) registered team-highs in kills (7) and service aces (4), while Beauchamp hit .364 on six kills and two errors in 11 total attempts. Rock paced the offense with 19 assists, while the defense was led by Simmons, who had four total blocks (two solo, two assist), and sophomore defensive specialist
Maddy Zophy (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa), who had 12 digs.
For Mount Saint Vincent, junior outside hitter Tara Maloney floored eight kills, while freshman setter Madison Gale handed out 21 assists. Sophomore libero Alexandra Rio protected the back row defensively with 12 digs.
