CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's volleyball team notched its first State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) win of the year on Saturday, as it defeated Buffalo State, 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-22), during its second match of the day in conference pool play action at SUNY Cortland's Corey Gym. The Cardinals fell to host Cortland, 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-19), in their first match of the afternoon.
Plattsburgh State moves to 4-11 overall (1-2 SUNYAC) with the results and next visits non-conference Norwich University on Friday, Sept. 28, at 6:30 p.m. Cortland and Buffalo State moved to 5-8 (1-1 SUNYAC) and 3-13 (0-3 SUNYAC), respectively, with the results.
Cortland 3, Plattsburgh State 0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-19)
Cortland hit .253 in the first match of the day to come away with the victory. The Red Dragons also held the upper hand in service aces (13-3) and blocks (5-2), but the Cardinals outgained Cortland in digs, 37-30.

Megan Hyde (Schenectady, N.Y./Schalmont) paced the Cardinal offense with seven kills, while freshman setter/opposite
Lauren DeVoe (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) handed out 12 assists. Defensively, freshman defensive specialist
Elora Sherman (Huntington Station, N.Y./Harborfields) and sophomore defensive specialist
Maddy Zophy (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) each posted nine digs.
For Cortland, sophomore middle blocker Bridgette Moran led the way with nine kills and a .500 hitting percentage, while junior setter Gabby Amelio distributed 22 assists. Sophomore outside hitter Kiersten Cole recorded 11 digs, while freshman middle blocker Camryn Anderson posted four block assists.
Plattsburgh State 3, Buffalo State 0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-22)
Plattsburgh State limited Buffalo State to .000 hitting in the second match of the day while posting a .118 clip of its own. The Cardinals outgained the Bengals in blocks (5-4) and digs (63-56), but Buffalo State floored seven aces to Plattsburgh State's four.
After Buffalo State took a 3-2 lead in the first set, Plattsburgh State never trailed the rest of the stanza, scoring six of the next seven points. Sophomore middle blocker
Michelle Simmons (Riverside, Calif./Riverside Poly) capped off the run with a pair of kills. While the Bengals started closing the gap with a five-point run late in the set, Plattsburgh State scored four of the final seven points in the frame to pull out the 25-19 victory in the first.
A 10-point tear early in the second set helped the Cardinals build a sizable lead, as a kill by Hyde staked the Cardinals to a 12-4 advantage. Buffalo State came all the way back, though, tying the set at 19-all following a kill by junior middle hitter/right side Danneile Arcuri. Coming out of a timeout, Plattsburgh State closed the set on a 6-2 run, and a service ace by freshman middle blocker/opposite

The two teams battled back and forth in the third before Plattsburgh State took a 21-19 lead following a Beauchamp termination. After the Bengals sided out the Cardinals, Beauchamp posted a kill and DeVoe and freshman middle blocker/opposite
Tara McGovern (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) combined on a block assist to take a 23-20 advantage. The Bengals won two consecutive rallies to pull within one, but a Buffalo State service error and a kill by junior outside hitter
Brianna Coon (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) handed the Cardinals a 25-22 match-clinching victory in the third.
Hyde led a balanced Cardinal attack with 10 kills, while DeVoe doled out 20 assists. Zophy reinforced the back row defensively with 24 digs, while Beauchamp and sophomore defensive specialist
Abby Bone (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Beekmantown) each posted two service aces.
For Buffalo State, freshman outside hitter Abby Mosher floored eight kills, while sophomore setter Brooke Federko tallied 15 assists and three service aces. Junior defensive specialist Brittney Valentine led the defense with 25 digs.
