Cardinals Shut Out Knights 1-0

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - Junior midfielder Connor Nembach (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West) recorded the game winning goal in the 18th minute of the Plattsburgh State men's soccer 1-0 win over Geneseo Saturday afternoon at The Field House Complex.

Plattsburgh State improves to 3-4-2 overall and 1-1 in the SUNYAC while Geneseo moves to 3-3-2 and 1-1 in the conference.

In the 18th minute of the game Geneseo's defense tried playing the ball back towards their keeper but did not realized Nembach was coming up the middle.

Nembach spit between two Knight defenders, stole the ball before the 18-yard box and put it past the keeper.

The remainder of the first half was even play with each team getting scoring opportunities.

Plattsburgh State's sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Wilson (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Arlington) recorded two saves while his counterpart made one.

Geneseo picked up the pace in the second half recording ten shots with five one goal but still could not find the back of the net.

In the end the Cardinals defense pulled through and Plattsbrugh State took their first SUNYAC victory.

Wilson logged his fifth shutout of the season and made seven saves.

Geneseo out-shot Plattsburgh State 13-9 but the Cardinals received more corner kick opportunities, 3-2.

Plattsburgh State is on the road Saturday, Sept. 29 to face off against SUNYAC foe Potsdam with a 1 p.m. start.
