College Hockey Stats Box Score

OSWEGO, N.Y. – No. 1/2 Plattsburgh State women's ice hockey team was unable to hold on to a late lead and settled for a 2-2 overtime tie with Oswego State in Northeast Women's Hockey League (NEWHL) action on Saturday afternoon at the Marano Campus Center Arena.

Plattsburgh State is ranked at No. 1 in the D3hockey.com Women's Top-10 Poll and No. 2 in the USCHO.com Women's Division III Top-10 Poll.

With the game tied at 1-all heading into the third period, Plattsburgh State took the lead 15:46 into the third on a power-play goal scored by senior forward Melissa Sheeran (Schaghticoke, N.Y./Millbrook School). Sheeran, who scored her 14th goal of the year, was assisted by sophomore defenseman Hannah Kiraly (Glendale, Ariz./Northern Cyclones) and junior defenseman Baye Flanagan (Billerica, Mass./Merrimack College).

Oswego pulled its goaltender late in the period in favor of the extra skater, and the decision paid off, as senior defenseman Victoria Blake found twine with 17 seconds left in regulation off of feeds from sophomore defenseman Kate Randazzo and senior forward Olivia Ellis. That 2-2 score would hold through the remainder of the third period and the five-minute overtime session.

Plattsburgh State moves to 17-2-2 overall (11-0-1 NEWHL) with the result and next visits SUNY Potsdam on Saturday, Feb. 10, at 3 p.m. in its final road game of the regular season. Ellis fired the opening salvo for Oswego 6:23 into the first period, with freshman defenseman Philomena Teggart earning an assist on the play. The Lakers took a 1-0 lead into the locker rooms at the first intermission.

Junior forward Courtney Moriarty (Estero, Fla./Northfield Mount Hermon) buried her 19th goal of the season on the power play with a 5-on-3 advantage with 12:47 gone in the second period. Flanagan and Kiraly each were credited with assists on the play. With the score, Moriarty moved into a tie for the NCAA Division III lead in power-play goals (8).

Plattsburgh State finished with a 25-21 edge in shots on goal and went 2-for-5 on the power play. Oswego was unable to convert on any of its four power-play chances.
