Just 4:56 into the second period, McCartney scored on the power play to provide what ended up being the only goal of the game. Sophomore forward
Antoine Desnoyers (Quebec City, Quebec/Cégep de Saint-Laurent) sent a puck toward the net from the left face-off circle, and sophomore defenseman
Charles Barber (Queensbury, N.Y./New York Bobcats) tried to poke it in before striking the right pipe. McCartney was on the doorstep to jab in the rebound to stake the Cardinals to a 1-0 lead.
After that goal, Potsdam applied pressure, but Poreda rose to the occasion and turned aside each scoring chance sent his way. The Bears held a 31-12 margin in shots on goal in the final two periods of action and finished with a 40-33 edge for the contest.
Plattsburgh State went 1-for-3 on the power play, while Potsdam was scoreless in four chances with the extra skater.
