PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Senior guard
Eli Bryant (Staten Island, N.Y./Michael J. Petrides School) scored his 1000th career point in the Plattsburgh State men's basketball 102-69 victory over New Paltz for their 17th consecutive win Saturday evening inside Memorial Hall on senior day.
Plattsburgh State ends their regular season with a 20-4 overall record and 17-1 in the SUNYAC while New Paltz ended their season 7-18 and 4-14 in the conference.
Bryant led the Cardinals with 19 points and picked up five assists, senior guard
Eric Mack (Roosevelt, N.Y./Baldwin) double-doubled with 15 points and 10 rebounds, junior forward
Jonathan Patron (Huntington, N.Y. / Harborfields) scored 14 points and senior guard
Tim Smith (Melbourne, Australia/Impact Academy) had 11.
The Cardinals out-shot the Hawks 52.2%-36.8% and were 78.3% in free throws.
The Cardinals were down 6-4 when Mack made a layup, senior guard
Zack Coleman (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley) drained a three-pointer and Smith put in a three to take the lead.
Plattsburgh State went on an 11 point run to take a 19 point edge with 10:28 left in the first half.
Mack put in a jumper, Bryant made two layups, junior guard/forward
Chris Middleton (New York, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) put in a layup and Patron drained a three.
The Hawks cut the advantage to 17 and the Cardinals went on a seven point binge. Junior forward
Ian Howard (Queens, N.Y./Springfield Gardens) put in a layup, Bryant made two free throws and junior forward
Isaiah Hill (Brooklyn, N.Y./HS for Dual Language and Asian Studies) drained a three to take a 24 point advantage with 6:38 left.
The Cardinals ended the first half with a ten point spree; Smith drained a three, Mack made two free throws, sophomore guard
Jeremy Eisenman (New York, N.Y./NEST+m) made a three-pointer and sophomore forward
Adam Jaquish (Moriah, N.Y./Moriah) ended it with a layup to head into halftime up 58-25.
Each team scored 44 points in the second half.
Plattsburgh State took their largest lead of 34 points with 9:02 left in the game and ended the game with two free throws from Smith to take the 33 point victory.
The Cardinals are home Friday, Feb. 23 at 7:30 p.m. for the semifinal game of the SUNYAC tournament. Plattsburgh State will play the winner of the quarterfinal game between Oswego and Geneseo on Tuesday.
