BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's soccer team begins its quest for a ninth State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) title on Saturday, Oct. 27, as the sixth-seeded Cardinals visit third-seeded The College at Brockport in the SUNYAC Tournament first round at 11:30 a.m. at A. Huntley Parker Jr. Field. 

TICKET PRICING: General admission tickets are $5, while tickets for children ages 5-12 are $3… Children 4 and under and students from SUNYAC schools with valid identification will be admitted free of charge.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES: Plattsburgh State is 21-19-5 against Brockport all-time... This is a rematch of last year's SUNYAC Tournament first-round matchup, one that the Cardinals won, 2-1... The two teams last met on Sept. 21, with Brockport securing a 2-1 win at the Field House Complex... Senior midfielder Taka Fukushima (Noda, Japan/Municipal Kashiwa) scored in the 13th minute on a pass from Nembach, while Brockport's junior forward Jeff Hibbard scored at 49:00 on a long cross from freshman Ayub Jeylani to tie the game... In the 85th minute, Hubbard struck again, burying a rebound off a saved shot taken by Jeylani... The two teams finished with 13 shots apiece, while the Cardinals had six corner kicks to the Golden Eagles' five.
 
ABOUT THE CARDINALS: Plattsburgh State was the SUNYAC Tournament runner-up last year, upsetting Brockport and SUNY Cortland in the first round and semifinals, respectively... The Cardinals are led offensively by Fukushima, who has 10 points on the season on four goals and two assists... Junior forward Jimmy Marchena (Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) and senior forward Chris Robertson (Thiells, N.Y./St. Joseph Regional [N.J.]) each have eight points for the year, with Marchena owning two goals and four assists and Robertson recording four goals... Sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Wilson (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Arlington) has been solid in goal for the Cardinals with an .818 save percentage and a 1.02 goals-against average... Plattsburgh State earned a spot in the SUNYAC Tournament thanks to winning a head-to-head tiebreaker over Oswego State in the SUNYAC standings... The Cardinals had beaten Oswego, 2-1, on the road on Oct. 5... Head coach Chris Taylor is in the midst of his first season at the helm of the program... Taylor previously coached at Clarkson University for four seasons, where he compiled a 27-35-7 overall record.
 
ABOUT THE GOLDEN EAGLES: After a strong start to the conference season, Brockport fell to Oswego and SUNY Cortland the last week of the SUNYAC schedule to settle for the No. 3 seed... Jeylani paces the Golden Eagles with 22 points on 10 goals and two assists, while Hibbard (19 points on seven goals and five assists), freshman forward Matthew Stefaniuw (18 points on nine goals) and senior midfielder Quintin Volpe (13 points on five goals and three assists) also are regular contributors to the attack as well... In goal, junior Tautis Poniskaitis has fashioned an .843 save percentage and a 0.96 goals-against average... Twenty-third-year head coach Gary LaPietra is 232-137-48 at the helm of the Brockport men's soccer program.

WHAT'S NEXT: The winner of this first-round contest will travel to No. 2 seed SUNY New Paltz on Wednesday, Oct. 31, for a 1 p.m. semifinal-round match… The winner of the SUNYAC Tournament earns the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Tournament.
