FREDONIA, N.Y. – Plattsburgh State men's basketball duo of senior guard
Eli Bryant (Staten Island, N.Y./Michael J. Petrides School) and junior forward
Jonathan Patron (Huntington, N.Y. / Harborfields) scored a combined 50 points Saturday evening in the Cardinals 84-75 win over Fredonia State.
Plattsburgh State improves to 7-4 overall and 5-1 in the SUNYAC while Fredonia falls to 2-10 and 0-6 in the conference.
Bryant put up 27 points while Patron added 23 to the board. Senior guard
Eric Mack (Roosevelt, N.Y./Baldwin) also scored in double digits with 16 points and picked up nine rebounds and junior guard
Brandon Johnson (Greenburgh, N.Y./Woodlands) added 11 points to the Cardinals side.
The Cardinals went on a ten point run three minutes into the first half. Patron started it off with a jumper, a layup and another jumper, Bryant made a jumper and Patron finished it with another jumper to take a 15-2 lead.
Fredonia went on a six point spree to cut the Cardinals cushion to seven but Plattsburgh State went on an eight point bender take a 16 point advantage. Bryant made a jumper, Mack put in a layup, Bryant had two free throws and Mack made two free throws.
The Blue Devils cut the lead to 11 points with 42 seconds left in the first half but a layup from sophomore guard
Nick DeAngelis (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) and a jumper by Bryant put the Cardinals ahead 44-28 at halftime.
Fredonia rallied in the second half and out-scored Plattsburgh State 47-40. The Cardinals took a 19 point advantage seven minutes in but the Blue Devils cut it to eight with 3:39 left. With eight seconds remaining Fredonia came within seven points but two free throws from Bryant gave the Cardinals their nine point victory.
Junior guard/forward
Chris Middleton (New York, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) grabbed a team high ten rebounds for the Cardinals while Mack and junior forward
Ian Howard (Queens, N.Y./Springfield Gardens) had nine. Patron picked up eight rebounds.
Plattsburgh State out-rebounded Fredonia 48-44.
The Cardinals are on the road Friday, Jan. 12, to play SUNY Cortland at 7:30 p.m.
