PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's soccer team seized their third-straight shutout with a 2-0 victory over RPI Friday night at the Plattsburgh State Field House Complex.
Senior Cait Gagen (East Syracuse, N.Y. / East Syracuse-Minoa) wasted no time getting Plattsburgh State on the board first. Gagen snuck one into the net 27 seconds into the game off a cross from the left side from Madeline Saccocio (Schenectady, N.Y. / Schalmont).
RPI out-shot Plattsburgh State in the first half 8-7 but the Cardinals kept the one goal lead heading into the second half.
Saccocio logged three shots in the second half before scoring the Cardinals second goal in the 58th minute. Ernesta McIntosh (Lincoln, Vt. / Mt. Abraham) fed her the ball to tap it in from the PK line and give Saccocio her fourth goal of the season.
The Cardinals defense held off the Engineers the remaining 32 minutes to take the 2-0 triumph and their third consecutive win.
Nichole Gibson (Arkport, N.Y. / Arkport) has yet to allow a goal in the 2017 season and charted her third sequential clean sheet making six saves in the 90 minutes between the pipes.
The Engineers keeper Joey Lyons made two saves and allowed two goals in her 90 minutes in net.
Saccocio led the team with six shots, two being on goal. Sarah Haight (East Meredith, N.Y. / Charlotte Valley) had three shots, one on goal; Gagen had one shot on goal; Katie Matott (Rouses Point, N.Y. / Northeastern Clinton) recorded two shots and Sarah Bonner (Yorktown Heights, N.Y. / Yorktown) had one.
