Plattsburgh And Postdam Tie In 1-1 Double Overtime Draw

POTSDAM, N.Y.- The Plattsburgh State women's soccer team played their first conference game against SUNY Potsdam Saturday evening, tying the Bears 1-1 in double overtime at the Maxcy Turf Stadium.

The opening 41 minutes was a battle of field position as 11 total shots were taken between the two sides, Plattsburgh State out-shooting Potsdam 6-5.

Potsdam struck first in the 41st minute when Lexi Dean deeked a defender and booted the ball from 18 yards out to put it out of reach up over the keepers head.

The Bears led 1-0 heading into the second half, but not for long.

Senior Madeline Saccocio (Schenectady, N.Y. / Schalmont) scored her eighth goal of the season in the 60th minute to tie the game 1-1. Rachael Moran (Hopewell Junction, N.Y. / Arlington) fed Saccocio the ball who dribbled through two defenders and shot it into the back of the net at the top right corner.

Plattsburgh State out-shot Potsdam 9-2 in the second half and headed into their first overtime with a pair of one's on the board.

The Cardinals defense held off the Bears not allowing a single shot in the first overtime while Plattsburgh State recorded two, both on net.

Potsdam managed to get two shots in during the second overtime, both hitting the crossbar.

After 110:00 minutes of play the game remained 1-1 and both Plattsburgh State and Potsdam are 0-0-1 in the SUNYAC. Plattsburgh State picks up their first tie of the season and move to 4-3-1 overall and Potsdam is now 6-2-2 for the season.

The Cardinals out-shot the Bears 20-9. Of Plattsburgh State's 20 shots 11 were on net.
