AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- The Plattsburgh State baseball team wrapped up its Spring Break trip with a 13-6 loss to the College at Brockport in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play at Lake Myrtle Park on Saturday. The Cardinals fall to 3-7 overall and 0-3 in the league, while the Golden Eagles are 10-5 and 3-0. Saturday's game was a nine-inning affair and Plattsburgh State was the designated away team.
Plattsburgh State sophomore Patrick Bryant (Center Moriches, N.Y./Center Moriches/Hofstra) went 3-for-4 with a two-run double and a sacrifice fly, while freshman Alex Follmer (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) had two hits, two RBIs, two runs scored and one stolen base. Freshman Stephen Bryant (Center Moriches, N.Y./Center Moriches) had two hits, one RBI, one run scored and one stolen base and classmate Kentaro Mori (Tokyo, Japan/Joto) singled, walked and scored a run. Freshman Brantley Marion (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Beekmantown Central) started and took the loss after tossing 1.2 innings.
Senior Paul Ludden went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two walks and junior Avery Brooks doubled twice and had three RBIs. Senior Dana Cala chipped in three hits while stealing a base and sophomore Lou Miceli clubbed a two-run home run. Senior Nick Jerolimov came in relief and earned the win by throwing 4.1 scoreless innings of two-hit ball.
Follmer led off with a single and then stole second before senior T.J. Montalbano (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills West/Jefferson CC) moved him to third on a right field single. Patrick Bryant then contributed a sac fly the next at-bat to score Follmer for the game's first run. Brockport responded in the home half on Ludden's one-out RBI single. The Golden Eagles scored twice in the second and four times in the third to go up, 7-1.
Plattsburgh State then plated five fourth-inning runs to trim the deficit to 7-6. Stephen Bryant singled home a run, Follmer ripped a two-run single and Patrick Bryant doubled home two runs. Patrick Bryant advanced to third on an error and freshman Justin Adams (Valhalla, N.Y./Westlake) eventually reached second after stealing a base. A lineout, though, kept two Cardinals in scoring position.
Brockport added a run in the sixth and two seventh for a 10-6 edge. The Eagles pushed across their final three runs in the eighth on Brooks' RBI double and Miceli's pinch-hit two-run double to left field.
With its Spring Break trip completed, Plattsburgh State heads back north and is scheduled to host SUNYAC foe New Paltz for a three-game set, beginning next Friday at 3 p.m. There is a doubleheader slated for Saturday.
