Baseball Downed by Keene State

LAKELAND, Fla. — The Plattsburgh State baseball team fell Keene State College, 10-4, during the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational on Tuesday. The Cardinals slide to 2-4 on the season and Keene State is 3-4. The game was nine innings.

Plattsburgh State junior Noah Clark (Toms River, N.J./Toms River East/Caldwell) had an RBI double and classmate Joe Deland (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East) and freshman Kentaro Mori (Tokyo, Japan/Joto) both had RBI singles, with Mori also drawing a walk. Freshman Stephen Bryant (Center Moriches, N.Y./Center Moriches) provided one hit and two runs scored, while senior T.J. Montalbano (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills West/Jefferson CC) chipped in one hit. Freshman Alex Follmer (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) put down a sacrifice bunt and scored a run and sophomore Ryan Whalen (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) was tagged with the loss after tossing 4.2 innings with three strikeouts.
 
Keene State totaled 11 hits on the day. Junior Zach Rollins ripped a two-run single, while sophomore Nate Rossi went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Sophomore John Tarascio contributed two hits while scoring two runs and classmate Mac Struthers doubled, walked and scored a run. Sophomore Brandon Heath tossed six innings for the win, while classmate Michael McDermott and freshman Andrew Houde threw scoreless relief frames.
 
Clark doubled in a run in the top of the first inning for Plattsburgh State but Keene State freshman Connor Walsh equalized with an RBI single in the home half of the frame. Deland put the Cardinals on top while scoring on an error in the fifth but the Owls responded with seven runs in the bottom of that inning to take an 8-2 lead. An Owl run in the sixth and two Cardinal runs in the seventh came on Deland's and Mori's back-to-back RBI singles to make the game 9-4. Keene State plated the game's 10th and final run in the bottom of the seventh. Plattsburgh State had two runners reach base in the eighth on a walk and a hit by pitch.

Plattsburgh State plays an exhibition game against one of the Detroit Tigers' minor league teams on Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Lakeland.
