GENESEO, N.Y. – Senior guard
Eli Bryant (Staten Island, N.Y./Michael J. Petrides School) netted a career high of 30 points Saturday evening to lead the Plattsburgh State men's basketball team to a 92-83 victory over Geneseo inside the Louise Kuhl Gymnasium.
Plattsburgh State improves to 4-4 overall and 3-1 in the SUNYAC while Geneseo drops to 4-5 and 2-2 in the conference.
Bryant was 12-12 in free throws including four in the final minute.
Sophomore guard
Nick DeAngelis (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) recorded 13 points and junior guard
Brandon Johnson (Greenburgh, N.Y./Woodlands) had 12.
Junior forward
Ian Howard (Queens, N.Y./Springfield Gardens) picked up a career high of 17 rebounds for the Cardinals who recorded 38 overall.
The game was tied 13-13 with 13 minutes remaining in the first half when the Cardinals went on a seven point binge. Bryant started it with a jumper followed by a jump shot from junior forward
Isaiah Hill (Brooklyn, N.Y./HS for Dual Language and Asian Studies) and Johnson drained a three.
Geneseo came within four points of the lead and Plattsburgh State went on a six point run to take a ten point advantage. Bryant put in a jumper, Johnson had a layup and Hill put in a jumper.
Bryant ended the first half with a three-pointer to put the Cardinals up 50-36 over the Knights.
Despite taking a 21 point lead in the second half Plattsburgh State was out-scored by Geneseo 47-42 and the Knights took a one point advantage with 4:36 left in the game.
The Cardinals came back with a ten point bender starting with Bryant draining another three and making two free throws, senior guard
Zack Coleman (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley) put in a layup and a free throw, sophomore forward
Adam Jaquish (Moriah, N.Y./Moriah) put in a free throw and Bryant put in two more free throws.
The Knights came within seven points of the lead with nine seconds remaining and Bryant capitalized on a Geneseo foul to make two free throws to take the nine point win.
Plattsburgh State is home Saturday, Dec. 30, for a non-conference game against Clarkson University at 2 p.m.
