Sophomore forward
Meghan Kraus (Bellingham, Wash./Northern Cyclones) put the Cardinals on the board 3:30 into the first period, with senior defenseman
Lizzy Viola (Williamsville, N.Y./Buffalo Bisons) and junior forward
Mackenzie Millen (Anchorage, Alaska/North American Hockey Academy) earning assists. Kraus carried the puck up the ice, split the defense and went five-hole on the Bear goaltender from a tight angle along the right pipe. It was Kraus' first goal of the season.
Just 21 seconds into the second period, senior forward
Kayla Meneghin (Clifton, N.J./The Gunnery) buried what wound up being the eventual game-winner on the power play. Senior forward
Melissa Sheeran (Schaghticoke, N.Y./Millbrook School) passed the puck to sophomore defenseman
Hannah Kiraly (Glendale, Ariz./Northern Cyclones), who ripped a shot from the high slot that got blocked. Meneghin was waiting at the doorstep of the goal in the low slot and potted the rebound to put Plattsburgh State up 2-0.
The Bears cut the deficit in half 9:10 into the second on the power play, as they won an offensive-zone face-off, and passes by sophomore forward Lucy Condon and freshman forward Natalie Wasielewski eventually set up sophomore defenseman Delphine Léonard, who scored from the point.
Songin extended the Cardinal lead to two late in the second period, burying her second goal of the season with 1:29 left in the stanza. She skated into the Cardinals' offensive zone, beat a Bear defenseman one-on-one and dangled the puck in front of the Potsdam goaltender before wrapping it around her stick side into the back of the goal. Songin's goal was unassisted.
Finally, Plattsburgh State put the game on ice with 50 seconds left in regulation, scoring an empty-net goal. Meneghin played the puck up to Sheeran in the Cardinals' defensive zone, and Sheeran split a pair of defensemen and flung it into the unmanned net right in front of the crease.
Meneghin moved into second in the program's record book in career assists with 91, passing current assistant coach
Danielle Blanchard, who amassed 90 from 2005-09.
Senior goaltender
Brooke Wolejko (South Windsor, Conn./St. Lawrence University) earned the win in between the pipes for Plattsburgh State, making 21 saves, while freshman goaltender Samantha White shouldered the loss for Potsdam with a 32-save effort.
