PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The No. 2/2 Plattsburgh State women's ice hockey team put 64 shots on goal but ran into a hot goaltender, falling by a 4-2 final to No. 3/3 Elmira College in the UNO Classic championship game on Sunday afternoon at the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena.

Elmira's senior goaltender Kelcey Crawford stood on her head, making 62 saves to propel the Soaring Eagles to the win. Crawford earned Tournament MVP honors for her efforts.
Junior forward
Courtney Moriarty (Estero, Fla./Northfield Mount Hermon) and freshman defenseman
Erin McArdle (Macomb, Mich./Detroit Belle Tire) each were named to the All-Tournament Team for Plattsburgh State, while freshman forward Emma Crocker and junior defenseman Kristin Chivers earned All-Tournament Team honors for Elmira. The remainder of the All-Tournament Team included junior forward Tory Harshman and sophomore defenseman Kelly O'Sullivan from Adrian College and senior forward Jessica Young from Middlebury College.
Plattsburgh State outshot Elmira 64-24, but neither team was able to convert on the power play, with the Cardinals going 0-for-4 with the extra attacker and the Soaring Eagles going 0-for-2. The Cardinals were slightly superior on face-offs, going 35-for-63.
Plattsburgh State drops to 6-2-0 overall with the loss and next hosts SUNY Potsdam on Friday, Dec. 1, at 7 p.m. as Northeast Women's Hockey League (NEWHL) play resumes. Elmira rises to 7-0-0 overall with the win and next visits Chatham University on Friday, Dec. 1, at 7 p.m.
Elmira opened scoring 12:03 into the first period, as junior forward Katie Granato scored her sixth goal of the season. Junior forward Maddy Jerolman passed the puck to junior forward Maddie Evangelous in the neutral zone, who skated past the blue line and into the left face-off circle. Evangelous sent a centering pass to Granato, who went five-hole to stake the Soaring Eagles to a 1-0 lead.
With 18:16 gone in the first, Elmira made it a 2-0 game. Chivers passed to senior forward Louisa Lippiatt Durnell, who sent a puck toward the Cardinal goalie that got turned aside. Senior forward Sarah Hughson took a shot that was saved before Lippiatt Durnell punched it home in a scramble in front of the crease.
Plattsburgh State countered just 22 seconds later, however, as Moriarty netted her 10th goal of the season. Junior forward
Mackenzie Millen (Anchorage, Alaska/North American Hockey Academy) carried the puck from behind the net into the right face-off circle and ripped a wrist shot that was saved. Sophomore forward
Meghan Kraus (Bellingham, Wash./Northern Cyclones) collected the rebound along the right pipe and slid the puck to Moriarty in the slot. Moriarty then went blocker side to trim the deficit to 2-1 heading into the first intermission.
Millen squared the score at 2-all 30 seconds into the second period, as McArdle fed her the puck in the neutral zone before Millen skated up to the left face-off circle and wristed a shot past the Soaring Eagle netminder.
Elmira scored the eventual game-winner with 2:46 elapsed in the second period. Senior forward Meghan Fonfara took a shot that was saved before Chivers fired off an attempt from the top of the right face-off circle that was redirected into the goal by Crocker.
Evangelous added an empty-net goal with 27 seconds left in regulation to put the game on ice for the Soaring Eagles.
Senior goaltender
Brooke Wolejko (South Windsor, Conn./St. Lawrence University) made 20 saves in net for the Cardinals.
In the UNO Classic consolation game, No. 4/4 Adrian topped No. 6/6 Middlebury 3-2 in overtime.
