POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's ice hockey team fell by a 3-1 final to North Country rival SUNY Potsdam in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action on Saturday evening at the Maxcy Ice Arena.
In an all-time series that now stands at 90-15-6 in favor of the Cardinals, it marked Plattsburgh State's first loss to Potsdam since Feb. 15, 2008.
The Cardinals outshot the Bears 31-21, and Plattsburgh State killed off the lone power-play opportunity of the game late in the second period.
Plattsburgh State drops to 2-4-0 overall (2-3-0 SUNYAC) with the loss and looks to get back in the win column at the 20th-annual PrimeLink Great Northern ShootOut hosted by Middlebury College from Friday-Saturday, Nov. 24-25. The Cardinals kick off the event with defending national champion Norwich University on Friday at 4 p.m. Potsdam rises to 5-1-1 overall (2-1-0 SUNYAC) with the win and visits Elmira College next on Tuesday, Nov. 21, at 7 p.m.

Cam Owens (Wilmington, Mass./Islanders Hockey Club) at the top of the left face-off circle. Owens sent a centering pass to sophomore forward
Noah Batis (Martinsville, Ind./New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs), who was at the doorstep of the crease, and Batis beat the Bear goaltender glove side for his first goal of the season.
Senior forward Dylan Vander Esch scored for the Bears with 14:44 gone in the second period, relying on assists from senior forward Joey Gilhooly and senior defenseman Kyle Thacker, while freshman forward Jacob Juron tallied 1:05 later with the eventual game-winner on assists from senior forward Jake Martin and senior defenseman Sean Kacerosky. Sophomore forward Vinny Guimond added insurance 4:08 into the third period for Potsdam, with junior forward Ben Mariano earning an assist on the goal.

Jimmy Poreda (Tonawanda, N.Y./Connecticut Jr. Rangers) made 18 saves in the loss for the Cardinals, while senior goaltender Brendan McMenimen turned aside 30 shots in the win for the Bears.
