PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.- Junior women's goal keeper
Nichole Gibson (Arkport, N.Y. / Arkport) recorded her seventh win of the season in the Cardinals 3-1 win over The Sage Colleges Tuesday night at the Field House Complex.
Both the Cardinals and Gibson improve to 7-3-1 for the season while The Sage Colleges move to 4-5-1.
Rachael Moran (Hopewell Junction, N.Y. / Arlington) put the Cardinals on the board first with a shot from 25 yards out that went over the keepers head in the 17
th minute.
Madeline Saccocio (Schenectady, N.Y. / Schalmont) scored her 12
th goal of the season less than three minutes later.
Cait Gagen (East Syracuse, N.Y. / East Syracuse-Minoa) fed the ball from the left side and Saccocio put it in the right corner.
The Gators scored in the 25
th minute with a shot from 20 yards out that was out of Gibson's reach to cut the Cardinals lead in half.
Plattsburgh State controlled the remainder of the first half only allowing one shot compared to the Cardinal's three to head into halftime up 2-1.
The Cardinals wasted no time in the second half, scoring their third goal just two minutes in.
Jessica Reid (Fairfax, Va. / Fairfax) had a quick pass to Gagen who crossed the ball to
Katie Matott (Rouses Point, N.Y. / Northeastern Clinton) who put the ball into the top left corner.
Plattsburgh State's defense held The Sage Colleges to five shots in the second half paralleled to the Cardinals 13.
The Cardinals offense had multiple opportunities to score another goal but the Gators defense detained them to three goals.
The Gators keeper faced 11 shots and saved eight, six alone in the second half.
Gibson recorded four saves in her 90:00 minutes in net.
Saccocio and Matott both had four shots, two on net and one goal. Gagen logged four shots, all of which were on goal and two assists. Moran recorded two shots, one goal, Reid had three shots, one on goal and
Abbie Seamans (Bolton Landing, N.Y. / Bolton Central) had one shot which was on goal.
The Cardinals are back home on Friday to host SUNY Oneonta at 3 p.m.
