Late Goal Hurts Men's Soccer in 1-0 Loss to No. 17 Buffalo State

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Despite holding a 7-6 edge in shots, the Plattsburgh State men's soccer team allowed a late goal in a 1-0 loss to No. 17 Buffalo State in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action on Friday afternoon at the Field House Complex.

The Bengals are ranked at No. 17 in the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III Men's National Top-25 Poll. Plattsburgh State has played a ranked opponent in three of its past four games.

Buffalo State's senior forward Brandon Galanti scored the lone goal of the contest in the 83rd minute. Galanti intercepted a Cardinal pass on a restart in the Bengals' attacking third, and he took the ball inside the 18-yard box and beat the keeper to put Buffalo State on the board. That goal would stand up down the stretch, and the Bengals eked out the 1-0 victory.

Plattsburgh State falls to 9-5-0 overall (3-3-0 SUNYAC) with the loss and next hosts Fredonia in its final home game of the regular season tomorrow at 1 p.m. Prior to the start of the match, the team will honor its nine seniors as a part of Senior Day festivities. Buffalo State rises to 11-1-2 overall (4-0-2 SUNYAC) with the win and next visits SUNY Potsdam tomorrow at 1 p.m.

In addition to holding the upper hand in shots, the Cardinals also outgained the Bengals in corner kicks, 6-4.

Sophomore forward Sean Cray (Modena, N.Y./Wallkill) led the Plattsburgh State attack with two shots, one of which was on goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Patrick Feeley (Harriman, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) shouldered the loss for the Cardinals, while junior goalkeeper Andreas Queen made three saves in the shutout win for the Bengals.
