Haight Lifts Cardinals over Lakers in OT

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – It took 99 minutes on Friday afternoon, but the Plattsburgh State women's soccer team found a way to bury the Oswego State Lakers in a 1-0 decision at the Field House Soccer Complex.

Both Plattsburgh State and Oswego State found many opportunities to capitalize in regulation, but neither team could convert.

In OT, the Cardinal pressure in the offensive end resulted in a corner kick, to which senior Anissa Hartmann (Fairfax, Vt./BFA Fairfax) played a short corner to teammate Sarah Haight (East Meredith, N.Y./Charlotte Valley). Haight took a slight touch, and erupted with a left foot rocket that ricocheted of Lakers goalie Melissa Siegfried and in for the score.

Haight's sixth goal of the season sealed the deal for the Cardinals who controlled play during the majority of the overtime period.

Plattsburgh State goalie Nichole Gibson (Arkport, N.Y./Arkport) made five saves in the winning effort.

The Cardinals improve to 6-4 overall this season, and are now 2-0 in SUNYAC conference play.

Next up for Plattsburgh State, the visiting Cortland Red Dragons on Saturday in a 1 p.m. tilt at the Field House Soccer Complex.
