College Hockey Stats Box Score

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. — The top-ranked Plattsburgh State women's ice hockey team beat the No. 9 Oswego State Lakers, 7-1, in Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) West action at the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena on Saturday. Plattsburgh State moves to 6-0 overall and 5-0 in the league, while Oswego State suffers its first loss of the season and is 6-1 and 4-1. Both teams' rankings are according to this week's U.S. College Hockey (USCHO) Division III national poll.

Plattsburgh State senior Jordan Lipson (Davis, Calif./Pomfret School) scored twice and had two assists, while junior Kayla Meneghin (Clifton, N.J./The Gunnery) registered two goals and one assist. Senior Katelyn Turk (Mississauga, Ontario/Etobicoke Jr. Dolphins) provided one goal and one assist, while junior Melissa Sheeran (Schaghticoke, N.Y./Millbrook School) and freshman Meghan Kraus (Fort Lewis, Wash./Northern Cyclones) both scored once. Senior Julia Duquette (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Buffalo Bisons U-19) logged three assists and sophomore Mackenzie Millen (Anchorage, Alaska/North American Hockey Academy) dished two helpers in her first appearance of the season. Senior Camille Leonard (Oakville, Ontario/Oakville Jr. Hornets) turned in 22 saves.

Oswego State senior Kendall Appelbaum netted an unassisted goal and junior Andrea Noss was 10-of-20 on faceoffs. Junior Mariah Madrigal took the loss after playing the first two periods and stopping 23 stops, and freshman Amber Samonek collected seven saves on eight shots in the third period.

After a back-and-forth tempo through the opening eight minutes, Plattsburgh State clicked off three goals in a 6:28 span. The hosts went on top at 8:15 when Turk fed goal line pass to Kraus, whose shot from the left circle beat Madrigal blocker side. Sheeran extended the lead by two when she scooted through her offensive zone before backhanding a shot into the bottom right corner at 10:02. Meneghin stretched the margin to 3-0 at 14:42 on a power-play chance with help from Lipson and sophomore Courtney Moriarty (Estero, Fla./Northfield Mount Hermon).

The Cardinals continued their scoring output with a trio of goals on 17 second-period shots. Lipson put Plattsburgh State up by four by burying the rebound from senior Melissa Ames' (Rochester, N.Y./Pittsburgh Penguins Elite U-19) initial shot at 11:55. Turk potted a goal 15:35 and Lipson rounded out the second-period scoring with a marker at 18:08 to give the hosts a 6-0 edge.

Plattsburgh State and Oswego State traded one goal apiece in the final stanza. Meneghin started the period with a short-handed tally just 28 seconds into action. Leonard later stopped a pair of bids from the Lakers but Oswego State got on the board at 8:39 when Appelbaum ripped a point shot to the right side to make the score 7-1.

Plattsburgh State and Oswego State are back in action Sunday at 3 p.m. to close out this weekend's ECAC West two-game series.
