MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's ice hockey team returned to SUNYAC action for the first time in 2016 with a road contest against Morrisville, dropping the Mustangs 5-2.
The Mustangs would jump out to an early 1-0 lead when JT Stubbs netted a power play goal 10:11 into the first period.
It wouldn't be until 3:16 into second period that
Dillan Fox would strike the equalizer for the Cardinals.
Cole Stallard would give Plattsburgh State its first lead of the night at 7:04 into the second period. The freshman registered his 10
th goal of the season, this one coming via the extra man, making it 2-1.
Morrisville would get it all even at 2-2 heading into the second intermission when it converted its second power play goal of the night. Darren Young would get credited with his sixth of the season.
Plattsburgh State would take control of the game scoring three in the third.
First would come from
Matt Quilty to give the Cardinals a 3-2 lead that they wouldn't relinquish.
The Cardinals would score two goals over a 2:20 span from
Pat Egan and Fox. Egan finished with a game-high three points while Fox lit the lamp twice Friday night.
Plattsburgh State goaltender,
Brady Rouleau made 23 saves on 25 shots for his fifth win on the season. Counterpart Steven Dombrosky made 32 saves for the Mustangs.
The Mustangs would go 2-for-3 on the power play while the Cardinals finished 1-for-5.
Fourth ranked Plattsburgh State improves to 13-3-1 and will return to the Stafford Ice Arena Saturday to host these very Mustangs in the second game of a home and home.
