CANTON, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's soccer team proved to be too much to handle for the SUNY Purchase Panthers (1-2) on Sunday. Day two of the SUNY Potsdam College Cup saw the Cards work their way to a 4-0 victory and secure 3-0 record to start the 2015 campaign.
Alexis Archilla broke the scoreless tie 31 minutes in when
Fabian Chaparro sent a pass across the box to a wide open Archilla who touched inside and found room to bury a shot far post.
Perhaps the highlight of the day, junior
Terrence Spence scored his first goals as a Cardinal minutes apart to give Plattsburgh a 3-0 lead heading into the break. Freshman
Alex Price and Archilla tabbed assists on the late first half goals.
Plattsburgh controlled the majority of play, holding a 22–7 advantage in shots and a 7–2 advantage in corner kicks.
Chris Bowden netted the final goal of the game for Plattsburgh.
Jon Cabeca found Bowden who scrambled with Panthers keeper Esteban Aguilar before finding an opening to give the Cards a 4-0 lead.
Plattsburgh goalie
Mitchell Jordon made one save in earning the win. Aguilar made six saves for the Panthers in the losing effort.
Matthew Ebel got SUNY Purchase on the board in the 71
st minute when he received a pass from Nick Ishoo and beat Jordon near post for their first goal of the tournament.
Archilla, Chaparro, Spence and Jordon all earned spots on the SUNY Potsdam College Cup All-Tournament Team and Chaparro took home the title of tournament MVP.
Plattsburgh will face off against the Spartans of Castleton in their next match to be held Wednesday on the campus of Castleton State at 4 p.m.
