CANTON, N.Y. – At no point during Saturday's matches did the Plattsburgh State volleyball team find itself at a disadvantage as the Cardinals cruised to a pair of 3-0 wins over Paul Smith's College (0-4) and SUNY Potsdam (1-2) to cap their four-match slate at the SUNY Canton Invitational.
MATCH ONE: Plattsburgh State 3, Paul Smith's 0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-12)After seeing their offense stall out on Friday, the Cardinals came out firing on all cylinders by hitting .276 in the opening game en route to a straight-set win over the Bobcats. For the match, Plattsburgh State hit .144 and limited Paul Smith's College to an attack percentage of .022.

Izzy Ruff and senior
Emily Miller were the primary catalysts as they smashed down eight and six kills each.
Ruff, who hails from Garner, N.C., swung at a clip of .208 while
Emily Miller put up a match-high attach percentage of .333. On an individual level, each of the aforementioned Cardinals totaled more kills than the five the Bobcats were able to muster as a team.
Noelle Miller rounded out the top three scorers for the Cardinals as the sophomore totaled five terminations to go along with a solo block. Another area where Plattsburgh State excelled was the service line as the team amassed 11 service aces – six of which came from sophomore
Jordynne Ales.
Freshman
Sydney Gabriel passed out a match-high 22 assists while fellow first-year player
Sam Colombo registered 12 digs – another match-high figure.
MATCH TWO: SUNY Potsdam 3, Plattsburgh State 0 (27-25, 28-26, 25-12)It took extra points in the first two sets, but the result turned out to be the same as the first match of the day as the Cardinals downed SUNY Potsdam 3-0 behind a strong outing from
Sam Colombo on offense.
The freshman out of Patchogue, N.Y., sprung for a match-best 11 kills while Ruff and
Melissa Wickers added eight and six respectively for the Cardinals who hit .220 in the triumph. Colombo put the finishing touches on her first double-double performance as a collegian by amassed a match-high 23 digs. Ales and sophomore
Miranda Sheffer joined Colombo in double-digit territory in the digs department by totaling 13 and 10 respectively.
Delivering yet another strong showing in the front row,
Emily Miller contributed three solo blocks and another block assist to the Cardinals' cause.
On the defensive end of things, Plattsburgh State gave up very few open areas of real estate and limited the Bears to an attack percentage of .070 during the three-set skirmish.
Following their 3-2 opening week to the season, the Cardinals will return to Memorial Hall on Friday and Saturday to host the 2015 Best Western-Ground Round Cardinal Classic. Elms, Lasell and SUNY Poly will comprise the rest of the tournament field and the Cardinals will begin their three-game schedule with a 7 p.m. matchup against Elms Friday night.
