ELMIRA, N.Y. (MARCH 7, 2015) - The Plattsburgh State women's team opened its ECAC West title defense against Oswego State defeating the Lakers 4-2 in the semifinals.
The Lakers jumped on the scoreboard first within five minutes of the first period when Olivia Ellis beat Cardinals goaltender Camille Leonard to make it 1-0.
Freshman Kayla Meneghin would answer for the Cardinals tying the game at 1-1 midway through the first period.
The second period would feature even more scoring as a total of four goals were tallied.
Ellis would put the Lakers back in front a little over a minute into the second period but three-straight Cardinal goals would prove to be the difference.
Bridget Balisy would tie the game up at 2-2 before Giovanna Scense would give the Cardinals a 3-2 lead that they would not relinquish.
Caitlin Gilligan would provide the final tally of the game with just 19 seconds left in the second period to give Plattsburgh State a 4-2 lead as neither team would score in the final 20 minutes.
Cardinal's goaltender Camille Leonard finished the game with 18 saves on 20 shots while Laker goalie Bridget Smith finished with 48 saves on 52 shots.
Plattsburgh State moves to 22-2-2 on the season and will face rival Elmira for the ECAC West Championship Sunday at 3 p.m.
The Cardinals are 1-2-0 against the Soaring Eagles this season as Sunday will be the first matchup between the two schools in Elmira.
