PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's ice hockey team and The College at Brockport will match-up for the third time in the 2014-15 season on Saturday as the No. 1 Cardinals welcome No. 6 seed in the Stafford Ice Arena at 7 p.m.
First thing first, throw away the seeds of these two teams got. While the Cardinals are the top seed and Brockport was the last team to get into the SUNYAC Tournament both games in the regular season were decided by a lone goal.
In the first matchup between the two programs early in the season on November 7 the Cardinals edged out the Golden Eagles on the road in a 1-0 victory. Junior defenseman Rich Botting was the only goal scorer of the game while sophomore goaltender Brady Rouleau pitched a shutout on 22 saves.
The second game, just less than a month ago, in Plattsburgh experienced a little more fireworks as each team featured a player with a hat-trick performance. Connor Gorman would score the first three goals in the first period for the Cardinals for his first collegiate career hat-trick before Brenton would score punch home a power play goal late in the first as all four goals for Plattsburgh State came in the opening frame.
Brockport wouldn't go away quietly though, not allowing the Cardinals to score in the final 40 minutes while Golden Eagles forward James Ryan would do his best to battle back scoring a hat-trick of his own including his third goal to cut the lead down to 4-3 with 7:22 remaining in the third period.
On Saturday, Plattsburgh State will have to lookout for the Golden Eagles power play as they boast the nations No. 16 man up opportunity at 23.4 percent. In the second game at Plattsburgh all three of Ryan's goals would come via the power play.
Plattsburgh State has been better of late as they are 6-1-1 in its past eight games and now find themselves in the top 10 in both scoring offense (No. 9, 4.24 goals per game) and scoring defense (No. 6, 1.96 goal allowed per game).
Rouleau is 2-0-0 against the Golden Eagles this year but faces a tough task as Brockport hung-up six goals on Geneseo in the quarterfinals on Wednesday night to reach the semifinals.
Tickets will go on sale at the box office starting at 5:30 p.m. Saturday before the game. All tickets will be $8 per person.
Plattsburgh State students may purchase student tickets online at
tickets.plattsburgh.edu beginning at 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Saturday. Students are free with their Plattsburgh State student ID card and a printed ticket.
SUNY students attending the game from other SUNY schools will also be allowed to enter the game for no charge with a valid student ID card from their corresponding school. Visiting students can get their tickets at the Field House Box Office also starting at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The winner of Saturday's game will face the winner of No. 2 Oswego State and No. 5 Buffalo State. If the Cardinals win they will host the SUNYAC Championship on Saturday, March 7 and if Brockport wins they will be on the road at the winner of the other SUNYAC semifinal game, as they are the lowest seed in the SUNYAC Tournament.
