ONEONTA, N.Y. – The bid for a State University of New York Athletic Conference finals berth came to an end for the Plattsburgh State men's soccer team in a 3-0 decision to the SUNY Oneonta Red Dragons on Wednesday.
The Cardinals were looking to return to the SUNYAC championship game for the first time since claiming the title in 2013.
Plattsburgh State had defeated the Red Dragons earlier this season in a 1-0 victory, and was hoping to use that experience to gain an advantage in Wednesday's contest. Oneonta had other plans.
Greg Silvestro netted a first half goal, while Dylan Williams and Jake Sutherland all tallied second half goals for the Red Dragons in the winning effort.
Oneonta goalie Vincent Pellegrino made one save, while Cardinal keeper
Mitchell Jordon made three saves.
Oneonta improves to 14-3-1 while the Cardinals fall to 14-4-3.
Plattsburgh State had been ranked for the majority of its season and at one point was up to 11
th in the NSCAA National Poll.
For now the Cardinals will have to wait to see if they receive an at large bid to the NCAA Tournament. The selection show will take place on Monday at 1:30 p.m.
