NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Plattsburgh State women's ice hockey team captured the Eastern College East/West Showcase on Sunday evening after defeating the Adrian Bulldogs 3-0.
The Cardinals would start the game strong scoring three unanswered goals in the first period.
Bridget Balisy would start the scoring, converting on a power play goal 3:22 into the game to make it 1-0.
Just past the halfway point in the first period the Cardinals would score two quick ones to gain a 3-0 advantage.
Melissa Ames would net her first of the season with
Katelyn Turk picking up the assist before flipping roles as Turk made it 3-0 with Ames on the assist.
The second and third periods would feature the goalies as neither team would find the back of the net in the final 46 minutes of the game.
Plattsburgh State's
Camille Leonard picked up her second win and her first shutout on the season, making 22 saves. Adrian's, Jade Walsh finished the night with 21 saves including nine in the third period.
Plattsburgh State opens the season 2-0-0 and will return to the Stafford Ice Arena on Saturday when the Cardinals host ECAC West foe Neumann. Saturday will also mark banner night, as the Cardinals will raise their 2014-15 Division III National Championship banner.
