Cardinals Outlasted by Buffalo State in Five Sets

Sam Colombo led the Cardinals in kills (25) and digs (16) in Friday's loss to Buffalo State.
Box Score PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. Engaged in its first home conference match of the 2015 season, the Plattsburgh State volleyball team came up just short against Buffalo State, falling in five sets (16-25, 25-23, 25-21, 17-25, 15-8) on Friday evening.

The Cardinals drop to 7-12 on the season and are now 1-3 in SUNYAC contests, while the Bengals improve to 10-8 and get even in SUNYAC matches at 2-2.

Despite outhitting the Bengals .211 to .123 for the match, it was Buffalo State's .222 compared to Plattsburgh State's .043 hitting percentage in the final set that proved to be the difference in the match.

After taking the first set convincingly, the Cardinals were unable to complete comebacks in the next two sets, losing close battles by two and four points respectively.

Plattsburgh State regained its momentum though, taking the fourth set after hitting at a clip of .276.

The Memorial Hall faithful was hopeful the Cardinals could put away the Bengals in the fifth, but it wasn't meant to be as Buffalo State took advantage of several Plattsburgh State errors to build an early lead they would not give up.

Sam Colombo had a season-high 25 kills and 16 digs, both of which led the team.

Jordynne Ales collected 15 digs, while Sydney Gabriel had 13 digs and helped with 47 assists.

For the Bengals, Hannah Renaldo racked up 17 kills on 62 total attempts.

Jade Wooley and Jennifer Cecchettini each had 17 digs, with the latter also dishing out 44 assists.

As a team, Buffalo State made eight blocks compared to Plattsburgh State's two.

SUNYAC Pool Play continues Saturday morning at Memorial Hall, as all four teams will play two matches. The Cardinals will take on New Paltz at 10 a.m. before wrapping up the weekend by facing Oswego State at 12:30 p.m.
