ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State volleyball team was looking to finish 2015 on a high note, but was unable to do so, falling to Elmira and Bard (25-21, 25-27, 25-22, 16-25, 15-11) on Saturday at the Oneonta Dig Pink Invitational.
MATCH ONE: Elmira 3, Plattsburgh State 1 (26-24, 25-10, 23-25, 25-16)It was all Soaring Eagles early as the Cardinals hit .000 and -.188 in the first two sets respectively.
Plattsburgh State picked up its offense in the third, hitting .179 while holding Elmira to a .143 clip. It was the Soaring Eagles that would floor 15 kills in the deciding fourth frame and go on to win the match 3-1.
Emily Miller and
Noelle Miller led Plattsburgh State with 10 and eight kills respectively.
Four Cardinals finished in double digits in kills, with
Izzy Ruff leading the way with 17.
Plattsburgh State totaled six service aces and out-blocked Elmira six to five.
Ashley Heiman smacked down 16 kills while Natalie Schieder had 14 kills to go along with 15 digs.
MATCH TWO: Bard 3, Plattsburgh State 2 (25-21, 25-27, 25-22, 16-25, 15-11)A highly contested season finale saw the Cardinals drop their third straight match that went five sets.
The Raptors take the first set, hitting .200 before the Cardinals limited Bard to .000 shooting in the second to make it 1-1.
Over the final three sets, the Raptors shot at clips of .348, .400, and .545.
Izzy Ruff had a season-high 16 terminations for the Cardinals and also finished with 11 digs.
Emily Miller put down 10 kills while
Noelle Miller had nine.
Sydney Gabriel dished out 39 assists.
The Cardinals wrap up the season with a record of 7-21.
