CANTON, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's ice hockey team started its 2015-16 season in grand fashion, downing the SUNY Canton Kangaroos 6-2 Saturday night.
The Cardinals took a 1-0 lead in the first period when
Kevin Emmerling scored the first of two power play goals on the evening.
In the second period, Plattsburgh State would find the back of the net three times to make it 4-0 through 40 minutes.
Kyle Hall, Emmerling and
Brandon O'Quinn would all light the lamp for the Cardinals.
In the third period each side would tally two goals apiece.
Dillan Fox would make it 5-0 Plattsburgh State before Canton's Josh Sova would get the Kangaroos on the board.
Senior,
Anthony Calabrese would score his first goal of the season and third power play goal of the night for the Cardinals as Plattsburgh State finished the night 3-9 on the man advantage.
George Curry for the Kangaroos would score with 1:05 left to make it 6-2 on a short-handed goal.
Plattsburgh State's
Spencer Finney corralled 16 saves in the win while Josh Erickson made 25 saves for the Kangaroos.
The Cardinals go to 1-0-0 on the season and will return to the Stafford Ice Arena for a weekend showdown against a pair of SUNYAC opponents in Fredonia and Buffalo State on Friday and Saturday.
