Box Score 2 UTICA, N.Y. – After rolling passed Skidmore in four sets on Friday night, the Plattsburgh State volleyball team was unable to keep the momentum going on Saturday afternoon, falling first to SUNY Poly in a five-set battle, and then to St. John Fisher in straight sets in day two of the SUNY Poly Wildcat Weekend Invite.
MATCH ONE: SUNY Poly 3, Plattsburgh State 2 (23-25, 19-25, 27-25, 25-23, 15-10)The Wildcats have now beaten the Cardinals twice in a three-week span, although this match was much unlike the straight set victory SUNY Poly had at the Cardinal Classic.
Plattsburgh State was in the driver's seat after taking the first two sets against the hosts, spotting an average attack percentage of .321 over that time.
The third set changed the complexion of the match however as the Wildcats were able to squeak out a 27-25 win before breezing past the Cardinals in the final two frames.
For the first time this season, Plattsburgh State saw four individuals amass double-digit figures in kills.
Sam Colombo collected 15 while
Izzy Ruff had 13.
Emily Miller and
Noelle Miller each had 11 terminations in the defeat.
Colombo also accumulated 30 digs, with
Sydney Gabriel and
Jordynne Ales each collected 16.
MATCH TWO: St. John Fisher 3, Plattsburgh State 0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-22)Plattsburgh State was unable to put any consistent offensive pressure on Fisher, as it hit just .115 as a team during the match.
Sam Colombo tallied eight kills and 15 digs to lead the squad in both categories.
Emily Miller added six kills while
Jordynne Ales finished with 13 digs.
Sydney Gabriel supplemented 21 assists for Plattsburgh State, who now fall to 7-10 on the season.
The Cardinals will open up a five-game homestand beginning on Wednesday evening with a bout against fellow North Country rival SUNY Canton. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
