Three Second Period Goals Power Cardinals over Skidmore, 4-2

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's hockey team had to weather an early storm from the Thoroughbreds to fight to a 4-2 win.

It was rough stuff for the Cardinals as the Thoroughbreds started the game with a lot energy finding the back of the net just forty-four seconds into the game when Anthony Bird converted on a breakaway.

The rest of the first period would remain scoreless as Skidmore would take a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

Plattsburgh State would score a quick goal of their own to start the second period as they lit the lamp just over a minute in.

Mark Constantine would be the reciprient on the Cardinal goal tying the game up at 1-1 on his fourth goal of the season.

The Cardinals would then take the lead when Josh Koerner would collect a deflection before knocking the puck home into an open net after Skidmore goalie Jack McDonald slid out of position.

However, the Thoroughbreds would answer quickly though on the power play to tie the game back up a 2-2.

It was a minute twenty after Plattsburgh State took the lead, Jack Sloan would pick an opportunistic time to score his first goal of the season to get Skidmore back even with the Cardinals.

Plattsburgh State's Kevin Emmerling would score less than seven minutes left into the second period to give the Cardinals a lead that they would not relinquish.

The Cardinals would start the third with a 3-2 lead and 3:46 into the last period would make it 4-2.

Senior, Connor Toomey would score his third goal in two games on the power play. The Billerica, Mass., native would collect a rebound of a Luke Baleshta shot and bury it before McDonald could slide over in time.

Spencer Finney started his third-straight game and improved to 8-0-1 on the season with 19 saves on 21 shots. Skidmore goaltender McDonald fell to 1-10-1 stopping 31 on 35 shots.

Plattsburgh State (12-2-1) will hit the ice again at the Stafford Ice Arena on Friday as they host Middlebury after beating the Panthers earlier in the season during the PrimeLink Great Northern ShootOut, 4-2.
