Geneseo Rallies from Two Back to Win 3-2 over the Cardinals

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's hockey team wrapped up its final home game of the 2014-15 season with a disappointing 3-2 loss to Geneseo.

Special teams would play a huge part Saturday night as the whole contest was filled with a barrage of penalties from start to beginning on both teams. The Cardinals and Ice Knights combined for 20 penalties for 53 minutes with Plattsburgh taking 12 of them for 35 minutes.

Plattsburgh would knock in the first two goals to take a 2-0 lead before choking it away down the stretch.

The captain, Brandon Beadow got the Cardinals on the board first with his first goal of the season less than four minutes into the opening period.

In the second period senior, Michael Cassidy would score a beautiful breakaway 5-on-3 short-handed goal to increase the Cardinal lead to 2-0. Cassidy intercepted an Ice Knight d-to-d pass before rushing down the ice and deeking Geneseo goalie Nick Horrigan beating him glove side.

However, Geneseo would respond with three-straight goals to take the lead and the win.

With just over five minutes remaining in the second period when Ryan Donnelly would redirect one past Cardinal goaltender Brady Rouleau.

In the third period Geneseo would net its next two both on the power play to complete the comeback and grab a 3-2 lead.

The first power play goal came from David Ripple as he sent one in from left dot beating Rouleau sliding over to his right.

The next goal was almost identical this time Trevor Hills would beat Rouleau as he was sliding over from another cross ice pass.

Plattsburgh would gain pressure Geneseo in the last five minutes as they were six on four with an empty but were unable to crack Horrigan for a third goal.
Rouleau would make 25 saves on 28 shots in the losing effort. Horrigan would make 24 saves on 26 shots.

Plattsburgh State drops to 14-5-1 and 10-2-0 in the SUNYAC.  The Cardinals have stumbled as of late dropping three out of its last five games all at home.

Now the Cardinals will have to put their focus to the road as they finish their final five games of the season away from the Stafford Ice Arena. Next up is a pair of SUNYAC games on Friday and Saturday against Buffalo State and Fredonia State.
