Cardinals Roll by Lakers 4-0

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's hockey team remains perfect in ECAC West play moving to 10-0-0 with a 4-0 win over Oswego State in the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena on Saturday evening.

The Cardinals struck early tallying two goals in the first frame to take the edge over Oswego State.

The first goal came from Melissa Ames when she skated below the right dot before squeaking one by Laker goalie Bridget Smith. The puck sneaked off the post and by Smith's glove.

Giovanna Senese would pick up her seventh goal of the season when she found herself all alone in the slot. One-on-one with Smith she dangled the goalie before slipping it around the outstretched leg and into the net.

The second period would be a quite one as neither team could light the lamp in the middle stanza.

Much like the first period the third period belonged to the Cardinals and specifically Kayla Meneghin as she would score two to give Plattsburgh State the 4-0 advantage.

The freshman scored her first one by jamming the puck out of scrum in front of the net between the left post and the pad of Smith.

The Clifton, N.J., native would follow that with a beautiful goal when she received a great pass from fellow freshman Melissa Sheeran that would split the defense and send Meneghin in alone on the goalie. Meneghin would then fake going left before bring it back right beating Smith cleanly.

Meneghin has a team-high 16 goals in 16 games and 31 points for the Cardinals. She ranks second in the country in points and first among freshmen.

Cardinal goaltender Camille Leonard registered her third-straight shutout and forth in five games. Leonard has only allowed one goal in her last five games and is now the NCAA Division III women's hockey leader in shutouts, save percentage and goals allowed average.

Oswego State goalie Bridget Smith only picked up her second loss of the season making 44 saves on 48 Cardinal shots.

With the win Plattsburgh State stays unbeaten and is now 14-0-2 while Oswego State drops to 11-3-1 as both teams will meet again Sunday in the Stafford Ice Arena for a 3 p.m. puck drop.
