Top Ranked Cardinals Blank No.3 Norwich, 5-0

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's hockey team returned home for its first home game of the second semester with a monster match-up against Norwich. The Cardinals handled everything the Cadets had easily on their way to a 5-0 win.
 
The first period would remain scoreless as neither team would crack in the opening 20 minutes of play.
 
However, the Cardinals would find pay dirt twice in the middle stanza scoring two goals in forty seconds to take a 2-0 lead over the Cadets.
 
First was Jordan Lipson poking the puck through a scrum after Bridget Balisy and Shannon Stewart tossed a pair of their own shots on net.
 
The second goal would go Melissa Sheeran as the reigning ECAC rookie of the week would score her tenth goal of the season. Sheeran now has goals in three-straight games.
 
The third period would also belong to the Cardinals as they tallied on three more goals on their way to five on the night.
 
Four sixteen into the period Pickering, Ontario, native Shannon Stewart glided down the right hand boards before cutting into the middle of the ice to slot wristing one five-hole on Cadets goaltender Celeste Robert.
 
The next two goals would belong to freshman Kayla Meneghin as she had to her team-high goals and points.
 
Both Meneghin's goals came unassisted as her first one she gained the slot before sniping one above the glove of Norwich's new goalie Laurie King.
 
She then followed that up with a short-handed breakaway goal, deking the goalie before sliding one through the legs of the sprawled out King.
 
Camille Leonard pitched her second-consecutive shutout making 15 saves and moves to 7-0-0 on the season. Norwich goalie Robert will get credited with lost making 14 saves on 17 shots in the first 44:16 of play. King in relief made five saves on seven shots.
 
Plattsburgh State improves to 13-0-2 as they will face a quick turn around when the Oswego State Lakers come to the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena on Saturday and Sunday for two ECAC West conference games. Both contests are scheduled for 3 p.m.
