Cardinals Escape Brockport with a 1-0 Victory

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's hockey team move to 2-0-0 on Friday night defeating the College of Brockport 1-0.

The Cardinals pressured the Golden Eagles all night as goaltender Jared Lockhurt turned away 33 of 34 shots he faced.

After a scoreless first period where Plattsburgh outshot Brockport 14-6 the 0-0 deadlock was broken when junior defensemen Rich Botting scored his first goal of the year. Fellow blue-liner Anthony Calabrese picked up the assist on the Botting goal.

The rest of the game would remain scoreless as Plattsburgh's defense didn't crack all night led by transfer goalie Brady Rouleau making his first career start for the Cardinals. Rouleau made 22 saves while picking up the shutout.

However the Cardinals will look to improve on the offensive side as the power play unit went 0-5 Friday night.

Brockport had two power plays of its own but couldn't solve the Plattsburgh defense. With the loss Brockport falls to 0-2-0 and will face SUNY Potsdam Saturday night.

Tonight's win marked the fifth-straight win for the Cardinals over the Golden Eagles as they haven't dropped a game to Brockport since the 2011-12 season.

Plattsburgh will look to continue the win-streak as they travel to SUNY Geneseo to take on the Knights in a much anticipated match against two top SUNYAC teams. Geneseo was picked to finish second in the SUNYAC this season one spot ahead of the Cardinals as the Knights are coming off a NCAA frozen four appearance last year.
