Cardinals Ousted by Geneseo in SUNYAC Semifinals, 3-0

GENESEO, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's soccer team hit the road for the second time in five days to play its second SUNYAC tournament game, this time the storybook ending wouldn't come true for the Cardinals as they fell to Geneseo 3-0.

The Cardinals struggled all game to generate a sustainable offense while their counterparts were able to score two in the first half before capping off a third goal in the second half.

Freshman Leah Greene sparked the Knights offense all afternoon as she played a part in all three goals.

Greene picked up an assist on the first goal as she received a cross from Danielle Sheehan inside the six yard box before she headed it along to Kelsey Raschke who volleyed the ball out of the air before finding the back of the net.

In the 29th minute Greene provided another assist as she sent her own cross in this time from the right side of the box to Emily Green who was able to send a shot pass Cardinals goalkeeper Danielle Schmitt to give the Knights a 2-0.

In the second half Greene finally scored one of her own which marked her 12th tally of the season as she scored in the 59thminute off an Alex Wandy free kick.

The Knights were able to generate 11 shots while the Cardinals could only manage four but did out corner kick Geneseo 4-2.

Schmitt, a senior, made five saves for the Cardinals while Knights goalie Allison Stamp gathered two.

Wednesday marked the end of the 2014 season for the Plattsburgh State women's soccer team as they were eliminated from the SUNYAC Tournament. It also marked the final game of the career for four seniors. Schmitt, Ashley Pagano, Cammey Keyser and Jill Tardelli all took part in their final collegiate soccer game. All is not for loss for the Cardinals as they finished the season with a winning record at 9-8-2 - a big step forward from last year's 5-11-2 season.
