PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State Men's Hockey team fell behind early but rebounded to salvage a 5-3 win over Morrisville State Friday night.
The Mustangs found the back of the net first as Zack Baker scored his third goal of the season with just 1:02 left in the first period off a rebound from a Steve Dol shot.
Plattsburgh would come out quick in the second period as the Cardinals would score 20 seconds into the period. Mark Constantine scored for the second-straight game off a Connor Toomey faceoff win in the Morrisville zone.
Michael Radisa scored his third of the season after Kevin Emmerling sent a pass to the junior in the slot from behind the net. Radisa one-timed it into the goal to give the Cardinals their first lead of the night at 2-1.
Morrisville would tie the game up at 2-2 with 3:08 remaining in the second Robert Molinaro beat sprawled out Cardinals goaltender Brady Rouleau.
The tie would not last long as defenseman Rich Botting put the Cardinals back on top at 3-2 just 18 seconds after the Mustangs tied it up.
In the third period junior Zach Popp would score off his own rebound in front of the net to give Plattsburgh a two goal cushion headed down the stretch.
The Mustangs would make it interesting for the last five minutes and change as they cut the Cardinal lead down to 4-3 Joe Santino received a beautiful pass for John Doyle right in front of the crease.
As Morrisville was trying to tie the game up Brandon O'Quinn tapped in an empty net goal with seconds remaining to seal the fate of the Mustangs.
Brady Rouleau made 22 saves in the win as he is now 3-0. Counterpart freshman Steven Dombrosky saved 39 of the 43 shots he faced.
Plattsburgh (6-0-0, 6-0-0 SUNYAC) will play Morrisville (2-3-2, 2-3-2 SUNYAC) again Saturday night at 7 p.m. as the Cardinals go for the weekend sweep of the Mustangs.
